  • General classification. Car or automobile is a vehicle mostly used to carry passengers. It usually has four wheels and an engine to run those wheels. Generally, car uses gasoline to run the engine. The more work a car do, the higher fuel it uses. Usually, a car for loading goods needs much more fuels than a car for loading regular passengers.

Description. The term automobile comes from the Greek word "auto" and the French word "mobile". It means that the car moves by itself, remembering at old time horse or cow was needed to pull a wagon. So a car does not need an external power to move.

Cars nowadays come in various sizes and shapes. However, they are used to carry passengers and also load some goods to be delivered. Minivan and city cars are used to carry people, meanwhile a pickup truck is used to loads builder’s material.

Not only on the size and shape, but also the difference between those cars usually lies on the engine. The heavier a car works, the more fuels it needs. Also, an engine is identified by the fuel it uses. A medium car usually uses gasoline to run the engine meanwhile big truck uses diesel fuel.
Fortunately, nowadays some alternative fuels have been invented and developed such as propane, natural gas, compressed air, and ethanol. In addition, some revolutionary researches create electric car. Thus it only needs chargeable batteries to run the car. It seems good for the future because it reduces the pollution from exhaust and saves more fossil fuels.
  • becak

Becak were banned within the Jakarta city limits in the mid-90s due to their propensity to cause traffic jams. Former President Soeharto (and others) also wanted to eradicate becak from the city streets because they felt the work to be degrading to the drivers. For years, becak were missed by people who live in housing complexes off the main roads and small roads which are not serviced by bus routes. Their sheer numbers in the city prior to the crackdown attests to how widely they were used. It used to be a common site in major cities throughout Indonesia to see becak drivers taking children to school each morning, and women home from the pasar (traditional market).

However, you may still be able to find an occasional becak driver ignoring the ban in distant suburbs of metropolitan areas and smaller towns. Outside city limits becak are still found at the junctions of main roads and smaller country lanes that don't have smaller bus routes. Models of becak are different in each city they are found in across Indonesia.

Becak fit two passengers comfortably and possibly even more, depending on the size of the passenger. There is some protection from the sun with the canopy over your head and a plastic sheet that comes down over the front helps protect passengers during rainstorms. Bargain before you get in and don't expect the driver to have change for large bills.
